Concrete Driveway Cleaners

In most cases, a concrete driveway can be cleaned with the use of a pressure washer. If some minor stains exist, you can use a mild detergent or cleaner in conjunction with a pressure washer. The only time a cleaner needs to be used is if you have oil and gas stains, or other deep stains that can’t be cleaned with the use of a pressure washer.

Oil & Gas Stains

Oil and gas stains are more than just surface stains, they are stains that step from within the pores of the concrete. In order to life the stains from within the pores and on the surface, consider using a product called Oil Lift. This eco-certified, non-toxic, Oil Remover and Multi-Purpose Green Cleaner, penetrates the oil and de-bonds it from surfaces like concrete, paving stone and asphalt. When Oil Lift has separated the oil, simply soak up the residue and rinse. The natural bacteria in the earth will biodegrade the leftover waste.

Rust Stains

Rust stains dye the surface of the concrete, giving them a copper color over the surface. Consider using the Armor Rust Remover to remove rust stains from concrete surfaces. The Armor Rust Remover is a highly effective blend of acids and surfactants designed for the removal rust stains, iron stains and metallic discoloration from pavers, brick, stone, concrete and masonry surfaces.

Environmental Stains

Environmental stains can usually be removed with the use of a mild cleaner, acid based cleaner, or pressure washer. Simple Green is a cost effective and environmentally cleaner for all concrete surfaces.

Sealing Concrete Driveways

Once the concrete is clean, you can prevent future stains from forming by sealing the concrete. There are two products that can be used to effectively seal a concrete driveway:

  1. Silane-Siloxane Sealer: Silane-Siloxane sealers work entirely below the surface and will not change the look or color of the concrete. They will cause water and other liquids to bead off the surface and give the concrete years of protection against surface stains. This type of sealer will also help to reduce damage caused by the absorption of water, such as cracking, spalling, and mold growth.
  2. Acrylic Sealer: Acrylic sealers provide a wet look, satin sheen or high gloss coating. They protect against hot tire pickup and add an aesthetic appeal.
