Concrete Driveway Paint

Concrete Driveway Paint Peeling

The last thing you want to do is apply a concrete paint to your driveway. Paints will peel, chip and flake. They don’t last long, are hard to maintain, and are a huge pain the butt to remove. Instead, consider a colored coating.

Paint VS Coating

A paint will sit on the surface of the concrete and form a thin, very flexible surface layer. A coating will penetrate into the concrete and bond to the surface through the pores. Coatings are available in several color options as well as with a matte, satin or high gloss finish.

When choosing a coating, it is important to choose the right coating. You want a solvent based acrylic, 25-30% solids. Solvent based are better than water based acrylics because they perform better, last longer, and are much easier to maintain. When it is time to touch up a water based acrylic, you need to remove it (like a paint). When it is time to touch up a solvent based acrylic, you just put more down. It is that easy.

Best Coatings

When it comes to coatings, not all coatings are treated equal. Each manufacturer will use their own blend of resins and solvents which are directly related with performance. Here is a list of manufacturers to consider:
